November 12 Where does time go?Why does time pass by faster the older you get? I just don’t understand it. This year has gone by so fast! Wesley is another year older, is halfway through kindergarten, and growing up too quick. As Thanksgiving is upon us, I’m reminded that we have been really blessed this year. We have been relatively healthy this year (no broken bones… knock on wood), Wesley’s doing well in school, and the Lord has continued to provide for us. We took a couple of vacations this year. Of course we took our annual trip to Gatlinburg in July but we also went on a three day trip to Gulf Shores, Alabama in early October. That was a pleasurable trip that had things for the whole family to enjoy. Wesley enjoyed the putt-putt golf and go-carts, while Jena and I preferred the shopping at the outlet malls. I think we’ll go again next year. Halloween has just passed and Wesley and I both dressed up for trick-or-treating. Wesley went as a werewolf and I was a Vampire. On Halloween night, our neighbors had a little get together for the kids where they played games and decorated pumpkins. Wesley had a wonderful time as there were about two dozen kids to play with. We also took a hayride around the neighborhood. We had a great time! Jena stayed at the house to hand out candy to all of the kids who came by. She loves to see all of the kids in their costumes. I’m going to try and post updates a bit more frequently this coming year! Sometimes you get so busy that you don’t chronicle life’s events and reflect on them as often as you’d like. I suppose that will be one of my New Year’s resolutions. December 30 Christmas 2008It’s been another great year and I must say this was probably our best Christmas ever. Wesley is five now and has now fully grasped the concept of Christmas. Just two weeks ago, Wesley’s daycare class put on a Christmas play at a local church. He was “Joseph” and one of his little girlfriends was “Mary”. It was possibly one of the best moments of my life to see him and his classmates tell the true meaning of Christmas. Jena and I were so very proud of all of them. Wesley was very excited in the days leading up to Christmas this year. He made his wishlist for Santa and we promptly mailed it off to the North Pole. Wesley’s 5th birthday came and went until finally it was Christmas eve. He was so excited! He got his bath, got ready for bed, and before going to bed he made sure that we laid out milk and cookies for Santa. He finally went to sleep then Santa came without a sound. Christmas morning, 5:37 a.m.; Wesley stirred and wondered if Santa came. He ran into the living room, Jena turned on the tree, and he quickly scanned the area and determined that indeed Santa did come. He opened with joy all of his gifts, Jena and I exchanged gifts and just had a wonderful time as a family. Thankfully, Jena did not have to work Christmas day this year! Eventually, we made it out of the house and off to our parent’s house. After making all the rounds and enjoying good food and the company of family, we were all pretty tired and ready to get back home. Definitely a good time and one to remember! November 14 HalloweenI don’t know where this year has gone but already the holidays are nearly here. It was just Halloween and we had lot’s of things planned for this year. First, Wesley had to pick a costume to wear from the many that he currently has. He picked out his Iron Man costume and he wore that to the annual “Zoo Boo” event held at the Hattiesburg Zoo. He really enjoyed himself this year as he was finally old enough to participate in all of the activities and games. Jena and I are really enjoying seeing him grow up! He finds so much joy and amusement in the littlest things… (i.e. the train ride at the zoo.) Next came Halloween night! We took him around the neighborhood so that he could go trick-or-treating. We normally make the loop around our community and hit the houses of the people we know. Wesley likes doing that, however, he is more excited about hurrying up and getting back home so that he can hand out the candy to all of the other kids. He acts so grown up… he hands out the candy, talks with all of the kids, tells them how nice or scary they look. It’s too cute. Anyway, it was a nice time. You can see his Batman costume in the picture gallery. July 24 Summer Vacation in Gatlinburg, TNWe just returned from our annual summer vacation getaway in Gatlinburg, TN. We sure do enjoy our time there every year and Jena and I both agree that this was the best one yet. We really love the area we stay at which is just a few miles outside Gatlinburg and is nestled along the Little Pigeon River. We left home on Saturday to begin our trip up and stayed in a hotel in Fort Payne, AL that evening. We swam at the hotel pool, did a little shopping, and had dinner before retiring to bed. Sunday morning we awoke and drove the remainder to the way to Gatlinburg. During the week, we went to Dollywood (where we rode a lot of rides and took in a show that Wesley wanted to see), went to Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, rode go-karts, went shopping, tubing, and various other activities. Wesley loved being able to ride the go-karts by himself this year. Everyone had a great time and we're already looking forward to next year's trip. July 01 Fourth of JulyWe recently attended the annual Fourth of July Family Day picnic at Nanny's work. It started about 5pm and it had been heavily raining just prior to the party. We were unsure if the rain would stop but luckily the weather passed over as the event was starting. Thank goodness since Wesley was determined to get on the water slide. He loved it! April 18 Cast OffWesley got his cast off last week; just in time for T-Ball season. He's extremely excited now that he got his new jersey. His team is called The Scrappers and he looks great in his new uniform. I'll post a couple of pictures of him in his outfit when I get home this evening. March 18 Broken Bone #2It's hard to believe that nearly a year has gone by since Wesley broke his right wrist. The scene is still very vivid in our minds (Orthopedic surgeons office, wrap the cast so it doesn't get wet, etc.). Unfortunately, Wesley fell off his swing set last week and wouldn't you know it... he broke his left wrist. Wesley is doing fine and taking the news well that he's going to have to wear another cast for about six weeks. Jena and I are both hoping that two broken bones in less than a year is not a sign of terrible things to come in our little boys coming years! He's just really into climbing and jumping which makes his parents very nervous given his history of mishaps. Oh well. I suppose its all part of being a parent. We'll post a picture when he gets his cast on tomorrow! January 22 Mississippi SnowCan you believe it? It snowed on Saturday for the first time in about 6-7 years! Since Wesley had never seen the snow, we loaded up and drove to Nanny's house. Wesley was so excited we started driving and he eventually began to see snow on the ground as we made our way North. He was convinced that it doesn't snow here because it only snows at the North Pole. We arrived at Nanny's and he was anxious to get in the snow and have a snowball fight. It was a great day and one I'm sure we'll remember for years to come. I snapped some pictures so check out the picture gallery.
January 04 2008 Is Here!Well 2008 is here and 2007 is now in the books. What a year it was! Unfortunately, Jena had to work on Christmas day, however, she did get to spend the morning with us before she headed out the door. Wesley was so excited on Christmas morning and Jena was so glad that she at least got to see his face when he saw what Santa Claus brought him. What did Santa bring him this year? Only his most requested gift. A workbench of course! And not just any workbench mind you. No. This workbench has a work surface that can flip over. So on one side he works with his power tools to grind and cut, and the other surface has an engine mounted to it so that he can work on it. He loves it. Santa also brought him a stocking filled with goodies, a smart cycle ( an electronic stationary bike that requires you to pedal in order to play the number and word games ), books, and clothes. After Jena headed off for work, Wesley and I packed up and headed to Mom's house. My sister and her husband from Texas also came over for a long overdue family holiday. We arrived at Mom's house and were immediately greeted at the door by wonderful smell's of "Mom's cooking". You know I'll never tire of that Mom! Wesley squealed with delight upon seeing Grandma & Grandpa. Wesley immediately wanted to know where Aunt Pam and Uncle David were. Sorry Pam and Dave - Maybe he truly wanted to see you guys and or it was time for presents and he knew he couldn't start until you guys got there! It wasn't long until everyone arrived and we exchanged gifts, talked and had a Great Meal.
Wesley and I had the rounds to make so next stop; Nanny and PawPaw's. We walked in the door to a crowd. Grand Nanny, Grand Pawpaw, Cousin Will, Uncle Gary, Uncle Joel, Uncle Ricky, Aunt Kim, Nanny, & Pawpaw. Wesley was now in heaven because he had a captive audience! But the highlight had to be when Wesley got a gift from Uncle Joel. You see, Uncle Joel has been hard at work restoring an old 1950 Ford Custom. Wesley calls it the Hot Rod! Uncle Joel gave Wesley a Ford Hotrod pedal car that is all metal and must weigh 20-30 pounds. Wesley Loved It. It wasn't long until Pawpaw, Cousin Will, and I were "assisting" him up and down the road by their house. Anyway - Great Times.
Finally, it was time to go home and see Momma! It wasn't long after we arrived home that Jena came in as well. Since it was Christmas, she said that the hospital was naturally slow. We sat by the tree and exchanged gifts with each other as a family and I had time to reflect just how grateful I am to have a wonderful family. A beautiful wife, kind and loving Son, Great Parents and In-Law's. What more could a person want? Thanks to everyone who gave us a wonderful day!
